2009 had many great experiences and learning lessons for me and my career. I realize that making it as an artist in such a competitive industry is going to take more then pure talent. I'm going to need to get my ass out there hitting the ground everyday. With that said I am making a vow to myself to get out there and do something EVERYDAY to enhance my career. I am going to knock on doors, test with incredible photographers, find out who's who in the Tampa market, and get a conservative job so I can continue to chase my dreams and support myself. I fought this through out 2009 and refused to get a job that wasn't makeup. A good friend of mine Guzman is chasing her dreams as a fashion designer and busts her ass everyday not only on the design and hustle front but also as a bartender and she also works for an airline. I need to be doing this. She inspires me.
With that said I will make an effort to update this blog as a way to hold myself accountable for what I am doing to further my career and life.
Today I have a meeting with the photographer Janelle L. to discuss a few upcoming projects we are planning. We both are determined to make 2010 our year and will be submitting the work we do.
Tomorrow I have a photo shoot in Orlando with photographer Jon C...I've worked with him in the past and hope we can pull off a great shoot. On Wednesday I'm shooting an escort with photographer Meeshee (that's her major market...it's funny so many little niches in this industry)...it's the second part of this photo shoot. Thursday I am supposed to be doing makeup application for a few girls for NYE.
2010 I'm ready for you!

I have another vampire shoot in the morning with a fantastic photographer Scott. I will be brinnging a friend of mine Jillian. Shr wants to model so we shall see how that goes. I think this shoot is going to be more fashion and less gore.

Vampire Pics
Halloween Themed Shoot
So it's pretty typical to do shoots that go with the holidays. I did a vampire themed shoot on Saturday night. It was a lot of fun and the pics came out pretty awesome.
I had a shoot yesterday with Mr. Charles Williams. He's so awesome. We're in the planning stages of putting together a creative fun project. Will post those when I get them.
I have a wedding on Saturday and then doing a bridal store opening on Sunday.

Time to get serious about blogging...
I've decided I'm going to make an effort weekly if not daily to write in this blog...as a way to remember my experiences as a makeup artist. I'd also like to use this as a forum to help other artists or anyone with an interest in makeup. If questions arise by all means ask...
My website is finally up and live http://www.andiesleeman.com/. Of course there are a few glitches that need to be worked out but it's there for all to see (this is where I encourage you to take a peak).
I had a photo shoot last night that was awesome. It was a vampire themed shoot with Fernando from FS Photography. I cannot wait to see the images...the last time we worked together the shoot was awesome! I have included images from that shoot in this post.
I had a shoot on Friday with the always inspiring Joe Traina. He is probably the most talented and artistic photographer I have had to pleasure of working with. The makeup I did was not something I'd put in my port but it was excellent getting to reconnect with Joe...I do hope to work with him again in the near future.
This week is not super busy. I have two shoots on Wednesday. Going to Gainesville for a few days (no shoots planned)...then heading to Orlando for wedding makeup on Saturday and then a bridal show on Sunday. Earlier in the week I'm going to prospect with wedding shops and planners...I'd like to start booking as makeup wedding makeups in the Tampa and Orlando area as possible.

Email response
HI MY NAME IS PAVEL. I AM INTERESTED BECOMING AN MAKE UP ARTIST. WHAT ITS THE PROCESS AND I WOULD LIKE DETAILS OF SCHOOL AND HOURS. THANK YOU, PAVEL MORENO
Hi Pavel,
That's awesome that you've decided to take the long and often exciting journey to become a makeup artist. It's a lot of hard work, sweat and tears but worth every sacrifice in my opinion. I think going to makeup school is a personal choice each artist has to make for themselves. I did go to makeup school and do not believe it was worth my time and money. It is a lot of money to invest with so little in return except a lot of drama. So if you need to prepare yourself to deal with drama then yes by all means attend makeup school...if not there are many other less expensive and much more rewarding ways to learn the ropes. I personally would recommend hiring a makeup artist a few times at their half day rate (usually 4 hours). Have them teach you everything they know...pick his/her brain for all the info you can get. I would just sit and watch the first time you work with them. Ask questions but don't get in the way. The next time you work with them bring a model and have them teach you how to physically apply makeup. Tear out pics from magazines that you'd like to be able to do and ask him/her how to do it. Be a sponge and absorb everything...take notes...take pics (if they give you permission...always ask for permission before you go snapping photos in this business). Apprentice with a makeup artist (or a few to get a sense of how different each artist is). Truly I think this is the best way to go. I've included a list of questions to ask the makeup artist you choose to train under (if that is the route you go).
I hope this helps and good luck!
If you have any more questions by all means shoot me another email and I'll help the best I can.
Take Care!

Questions to get you started.
What does a makeup artist do?
Are there any books you would recommend? (If they say no run!)
What do I need to stock my kit with to get started?
How to I get hooked up with photographers?
What should I look for in a photographer?
What is testing?
Tell me about the worst experience you've had on set.
Tell me the best experience.
What products do you use and why?
Where can I get them?
Many many more questions to ask but this is what came to mind at the moment...the more you learn the more you'll want to know so more questions should come naturally to you.

Predjuice Against The Ugly
With the world the way it is these days having an edge is not just a bounus but rather a necessity. Pretty people have that edge. I believe that taking the time to get ready in the a.m. (or p.m.) is worth its weight in gold. My goal with this blog is to help women become more confident in their looks. I believe this is an easy step all women have the choice to make. Is it fair that more attractive people get the better office and higher salaries (http://money.cnn.com/2005/04/08/news/funny/beautiful_money/ ), (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/beautiful-people-earn-12-more-than-ugly-bettys-461261.html) not at all but it’s the world we live in. So make a choice right now…fight reality and continue to be less then polished making less then your more attractive counterpart. Or embrace it. Start taking care of yourself (eat better, work out regularly, trash those crappy clothes) and make a commitment to do your makeup every morning. Take pride in your appearance.
I challenge every woman reading this to commit to doing your makeup (and hair) everyday for the next 30 days. Every time you are going to interact with another human being, even if you're going to the grocery store, take the time to polish yourself. See the positive feedback you get from family, friends, co-workers and complete strangers. This could be your life changing challenge.
