Moda Vita magazine launch!

This past Friday I was invited to do makeup for the Moda Vita magazine launch party. It was an absolute blast working with the magazines masterminds John Kantor and Bruce Amoroso and Sephora makeup artist Michelle Villano. They put on a fashion show and hair competition to promote the magazines launch at Jackson Bistro on Harbour Island. Below you will see a few photos of us behind the scenes along with one model Oksana Boss, who's makeup I had the pleasure of doing that evening.

Tween Makeup Article

It’s an exciting time being a pre-teen girl. They are starting to notice and emulate the world around them. With this comes the desire to experiment with makeup. Tweens want to look older like your teen counterparts. It is important to for these young ladies to remember that they are still a little young to be piling on the cosmetics; however, they can play and start to explore the fun and creative world of makeup.

What should tweens keep in mind when they wear makeup?

Keep is simple, clean and age appropriate. I like to explain it to girls this age that makeup is like riding a bike and the products they are using now are their training wheels, let’s start with the basics and in time they can add more products to their routine. Parents, talk to your tween girls about makeup, give them examples of what pretty is. I have spoken with many pre-teens who say all their friends are piling on the eyeliner and mascara at school. You do not want them to get their makeup advice from their friends who know as little as they do about makeup. Give them examples to look at of pretty girls. Yes, the sexy girls are wearing the dark often trashy makeup; however, the beautiful girls are usually wearing much less, allowing their natural beauty shine through.

What's an age appropriate look for a tween girl age 8 to 12?

When I do a photo shoot with tweens I like to keep it very simple. Absolutely no foundation, clear mascara, a sheer blush in either rose or peach and a sheer flavored lip gloss. It is important to remember that makeup is used to correct and accentuate, at this age girls don’t really need either. If tweens want to go nuts with bright colors let them do so with their nail polish. I also think now is a great time to take their first look at eyebrows. Pluck the random stray hairs to give the brows a cleaner shape. I believe if you let it go too long and they are picked on by their peers, these little ladies are likely to take it into their own hands, which we all know can turn into an absolute over plucked disaster.

Are there any skin care or makeup tips you can offer tween girls?

Start a daily skin care routine today. Wash your face when you get up and before you go to bed, tone if needed and sooo important wear an SPF every time you walk our the door, preventing now is so much easier then having to conceal unnecessary imperfections later.

Vibe Fit Club

Had an awesome shoot with the co-owner of Vibe Fit Club (www.vibefitclub.com) on Saturday, Theresa DePasquali, for Tampa Bay Pulse Magazine's (www.pulsemagazinetampa.com) "Tampa's Top 5 Most Unique Self Made Entrepreneurs 30 Years Old and Younger" with photographer Neil Lee (Smooth Photography). It's not everyday I get to have a "real" person in my chair who is so incredibly pretty.

News Channel 8!

It's been a busy week on the business side of things. Lots of networking, follow up, emailing...all the boring stuff people forget to mention when they talk about owning their own business. I had a really successful trial run last night with a beauty bride named Jessica (she was referred to me by my wedding specialist collegue Jennifer Burkle, Burkle Events). She is such an awesome client, she knew exactly what she wanted and wasn't afraid to tell me. I love that!! Then I know exactly what I need to be doing and not just guessing what her idea of a smokey eye is. Excited to do her makeup at the Davis Island Garden Club on March 19th!

This afternoon I am filming a segment for News Channel 8 (NBC) here in Tampa. We are going to be discussing the appropriate age to start wearing makeup and what makeup pre-teens should be allowed to wear and what they should hold off on. I believe there will be an article in the Tampa Tribune as well about the topic! I'll keep you posted with links to all the goodness!

Also, my article "Makeup At Any Age...Your Perfect Base" is in the current issue of Phassion Magazine (phassionmagazine.com) which came out a few days ago (page 35 - 37). I hope to write many more articles for them in the near future!

David and Goliath Photo Shoot

What an amazing day it was in the world of makeup for me! I woke up to an early call time for the David and Goliath tee's spring/summer photo shoot with Largo based photographer Dan Gaye (studio 75). It was really a fantastic fun shoot! The makeup was awesome. We did a few different looks. Smokey eyes. Bold lips. Funky jewelry. Big hair. I love when I get to have fun with makeup looks. :)

After the shoot I zipped over to Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Florida for the Swarovski New Collection show. It was a great event, it is always awesome and educational spending time with other artists and being at industry functions. The makeup was very pretty, pastels, spring like.

The pictures below are snaps I took of the makeup I did at the David and Goliath shoot.

I love being a freelancer.

I truly enjoy being a freelance makeup artist. It is the best possible job for me. I never know what each week is going to bring and what project is around the corner.

Today I had a photo shoot with Tampa photographer Jessica Leigh (http://www.jlpflorida.com). Our shoot was for corporate head shots for working women in the Tampa area. I met four absolutely fabulous and inspiring women who own their own businesses. It is always exciting for me to meet other like minded women!

Tomorrow I am working with Brandon based photographer Neil Lee with Smooth Photography. He is one of my favorite local photographers to work with. We always have a blast and create some serious magic! We are doing editorial type images with three ladies.

Wednesday I am shooting with Dan Gaye at Studio 75 for client David and Goliath. Once I wrap there I get to zip on over to Orlando for a fashion show with Swarovski Crystal and BMG Model and Talent. It's going to be crazy hectic but so worth it!

Peace, Love and Beauty in 2011!

Shoots.

I did makeup for a couple shoots with Sarasota based photographer Alex Stafford this past week. We first shot marketing material and corporate head shots for Physicians Regional Health Care (located in Naples, Florida). I have done makeup for several shoots with them over the past year. The second shoot I did makeup with Alex was for marketing material for Iberia Bank promoting the opening of a new location.

2011 Editorial in Vogue Espana

The satiny eye makeup on model Hind Sahli in the January issue of Vogue Espana is beautifully understated and compliments her deepened lip impeccably. Kudos to makeup artist Christine Corbel on achieving this look!

Sultry Makeup

Modern sexy makeup is all about sultry eye makeup. It is sexy and attention grabbing. This makeup look is typically achieved with a bronze, grey or black combination of eye shadows however, any combination of dark and light shadows can be used. It is important to include a full set of false eyelashes with this look as it is really the icing on this cake. It is important to blend, blend, blend when working with this look as harsh lines can really destroy the illusion of a seamless sexy makeup. When playing up the eyes keep the rest of the makeup low key…nude toned lips, sun kissed and not over bronzed cheeks, shimmer to a minimum…these is a fine line here between sexy and trashy.

Classic Beauty.

A classic makeup is about beautiful not over the top makeup with a bold lip. Your skin should be matte and even, your eyes should be defined and lined, eyebrows manicured and the apple of your cheeks flushed a shade brighter than your natural blush. Red lips are the exclamation point of this look. A red lipstick should be thought of as the little black dress in your makeup wardrobe. Take the time to find your perfect “fit” for this look.

Wedding Hair and Makeup!!

Roy Naccour and his team of stylists at J. Joseph Salon in Land O' Lakes Florida are wedding hair style geniuses. Together we created three beautiful hair and makeup looks for our Daytime premiere! You can see them live and in action this Tuesday, January 11th starting at 10 am on Daytime.

We created a classic, a romantic and a modern sexy bridal look. I will post the do's for classic and modern sexy makeup looks soon! You can see my blog about romantic makeup just below this post. :)

Here is a snap from behind the scenes (NBC studio in downtown Tampa). I will upload the video once it airs this Tuesday.

Romantic Makeup Look

Romantic makeup is used to create the lit-from-within glow. It really is all about beautiful skin and illuminated blush (important to choose a hue that mimics your natural blush…pink works best for this look). Playing with different highlighters is always a key detail not to be overlooked (applied to brow bone, temples, cheek bones, bridge of the nose). Eyes and lips are both beautiful but not over done…they should compliment one another not fight for attention.

Keddos Shoes Shoot

My last shoot of 2010 was with a German shoe company called Keddos. They have not launched in the United States yet but plan to in 2013(ish). We had a great two day shoot with the always fantastic photographer Dan Gaye from Studio 75 (www.studio75.com). The first day we shot in downtown Tampa at Curtis Hickson Park we wrapped the shoot the following day at the Tradewinds Resort in St. Pete Beach.

I did a light dusting of powder for the younger kids makeup. For the young adults I did a natural makeup look. For their Betsy line of shoes I did a sexier makeup look with a heavier eye, bold lashes and a light glossy lip. Here are a few images from the shoot.
